KIDAPAWAN CITY, Cotabato, Philippines—The bombings that recently hit Central Mindanao and Maguindanao were the Moro Islamic Liberation Front's way of pressuring the government to put the peace process back on track and pave the way for the building of an Islamic state in Mindanao, a local official said on Wednesday. Vice Governor Manny Piñol has personally asked the help of former Ambassador Eduardo “Danding” Conjuangco, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of San Miguel Corporation in buying the corn produce of North Cotabato farmers.
Vice Gov. Piñol’s move was in response to the clamor of corn farmers for help from the government in addressing the continuing decrease in the buying price of corn in the local market. |

The Sangguniang Panlalawigan of North Cotabato gave a resounding “No” to the proposal to amend the Philippine constitution through a constituent assembly. Voting nominally, all 11 provincial board members present during the 97th SP Regular Session Tuesday, June 16, expressed non-agreement with any move to amend the constitution before the 2010 Presidential and local elections. |

North Cotabato 2nd District Representative Bernardo Piñol Jr. will address the Sangguniang Panlalawigan tomorrow, June 16, to explain his position on the proposed Charter change and the constituent assembly.
Rep. Piñol voted in favor of House Resolution 1109 amending the Philippine constitution via a constituent assembly instead of the usual constitutional convention. |

Kidapawan City, June 11 - North Cotabato Vice Governor Manny Piñol lamented the death of provincial security guard Jake Rosales who lost his life defending the provincial jail against Moro Islamic Liberation Front attackers early dawn today. Rosales was hit in the head by a sniper’s bullet as he and other jail guards, augmented by elements of the Provincial Police Mobile Group, were fending off the armed assault of some 50 armed MILF rebels who were trying to free a high profile prisoner allied with their group. |
